About Phil

Phil DeSantis uses strong layers of watercolor washes with an emphasis on describing landscape and architecture through light and shadow. These paintings reveal his deep fascination with industrial structures, and he attempts to preserve them as they continue to disappear from our landscape. DeSantis finds much of his inspiration locally as well as internationally, from the brownstone-lined streets of Park Slope, Brooklyn to the medieval mountain towns of Tuscany, Italy.

Phil DeSantis also uses photography as a means to capture the essence of an image. These photographs explore a variety of subject matter but are linked by a singular vision. His close-up viewpoint celebrates a moment in time where the world is aligned in harmony. DeSantis examines the effects of light, shadow, color, and composition on a particular subject, stripping away the visual noise in order to achieve a natural balance.
